How to Prioritize Long-Term Thinking (and Why It Matters More Than Ever)

In partnership with

Why do we crave shortcuts so much?

In a world of instant gratification, it’s tempting to choose the fastest route to our goals.

But shortcuts often lead to nowhere.

Building anything meaningful—whether it’s a career, a business, or personal growth—requires long-term thinking.

The Short-Term Trap: Why We Lose the Long Game

We’ve all been there.

“How can I double my income this year?”
“How can I publish a book now?”
“How can I hit the gym and get results fast?”

I used to ask myself questions like these, and they led me to chase hacks and quick wins.

Naturally, it didn’t work.

True growth—the kind that transforms you—takes time.

It requires focusing less on “winning today” and more on “building for tomorrow.”

Amazon is a perfect example.

In 1997, Jeff Bezos told his shareholders to forget about short-term profits.

For six long years, Amazon didn’t turn a profit.

The world thought he was crazy.

Today, Bezos is widely regarded as one of the greatest CEOs of our time, and Amazon dominates the e-commerce world.

Why Long-Term Thinking Creates Lasting Results

In your personal life, long-term thinking works wonders.

When I started writing Newsletters in 2021, I dreamed of working with big Advertisers. But instead of chasing Advertisers, I focused on honing my craft and skill.

Years passed. I wrote more than 350 articles.

In 2024, these big Advertisers reached out to me. They wanted to sponsor their ads in my newsletters.

Here’s the kicker: I wasn’t chasing them anymore.

They came to me because my long-term focus on quality and consistency paid off.

The lesson?

Build the foundation first.

Play the long game, and let opportunities come to you.

How to Cultivate Long-Term Thinking

1. Adjust Your Expectations

We live in a culture obsessed with instant results.

It’s okay to want quick wins, but it’s better to focus on sustainable success.

Shift your mindset: Appreciate the journey instead of rushing to the finish line.

2. Enjoy the Process

You’ve probably heard the advice: “Enjoy the journey.” But it’s more than just a motivational quote.

When you commit to the process—whether it’s learning a skill, building a business, or improving your health—you unlock the kind of satisfaction, shortcuts can’t give you.

3. Focus on What You Control

Instead of chasing external validation, pour energy into what you can control—your skills, effort, and habits. Over time, these investments pay off.

A Modern Example: The Power of Long-Term Thinking

Speaking of the long game, consider how traditional finance is being redefined by decentralized finance (DeFi).

Companies like DeFi Technologies Inc. are bridging the gap between traditional finance and the $3 trillion digital asset market.

The Big Picture

When you avoid the trap of chasing instant gratification, you unlock exponential growth.

Life becomes less about proving yourself today and more about creating the future you deserve.

So, the next time you’re tempted to find a shortcut, ask yourself this: “What would Jeff Bezos do?”

The answer? He’d think long-term.

Stay Productive
